TAHMINA ALI

BIO

Born in 1984, in Baku, Azerbaijan, Tahmina Aliyeva began photographing in 2002 while still a student of the Azerbaijan Academy of Art. Most of her photography work documents the state of environment in her home city of Baku and its surrounding regions.  She is currently lives and works in Toronto, Canada.

2011 - "Photographer Of The Year" award from the Azerbaijani Union of Photographers

2011 - Open Society Documentary Photography Project - Grant Winner (project: Arranged Family Marriages in Azerbaijan)

2010 – 1st prize. Women Forum photography contest: Role of women in today’s society

2004 - Golden medal from the Azerbaijan Union of Photographers

2004 - 1st prize. Youth Culture and Art competition for the NIS countries

2003 - “Hope” award from the Azerbaijani Union of Photographers

2003 - 1st prize in young photographers competition held by the cultural department of the French embassy in Baku
